Helloooooo rock and rollers, took a break last week so got a bit to catch up on! Went up to Auckland this past weekend for the NZ Music Summit and had a good time just hangin out in the big smoke. Managed to catch two gigs up there (Endless Swarm from Scotland + other hc bands; Office Dog + AW) which was dope! Also did a lil Auckland beer review... I had some thoughts...

As usual we got a mix of post-punk/alt/rock/whatever. Got a few hardcore tracks in the middle of the show for da moshers too, new Eskrima + Converge rippsssssssss.

Today I got the chance to speak to Andrew Wilson, aka AW, aka the singer/guitarist of legendary NZ post-punk band Die! Die! Die! 

We had a great chat about his upcoming Ōtepoti shows at the Crown and Pioneer Hall, and his new album THE NERVE. 

We dived into the writing and recording process of the new record, which leans more into a lo-fi sonic soundscape compared to the driving energy of Die! Die! Die!.

Andrew also spoke a little bit about Dunedin's burgeoning all-ages music scene, especially Amped Music Project,

We got Marsha + Velveteen playing at Pearl Diver this Saturday, plus frickin SAOSIN and HAYWIRE playing some Aotearoa shows. ALSO especially excited for Drook from Virginia US, they are going on a huuuuge Aotearoa tour over April/May so watch out for that (and buy one of the pre-tour shirts + listen to their album).

Hellooooooooooo rockers. This show was smack dab in the middle of a rainy O-Week, and I was busy helping out with some R1 related events.

Seeing all the fresh faces on campus made me think back on my time as a first year back in 2022, and what music i was getting into at the time. That was actually quite a big year for me in terms of expanding my music taste especially into the world of emo, hardcore, metalcore and punk.

So I chose some tracks spanning emo, punk and hardcore that I felt would be a good introduction to the freshers who may not be familiar with this world of music.

I am actually quite fond of the resulting playlist, which features a mix of hardcore/emo adjacent classics that i jammed in first year, alongside newer tracks I've been getting into. And i finally played Converge. I love Converge.
